Member Positions:

Afterschool Activities

This person plans and coordinates programs for students after school. This includes, but is not limited to, Art Club, Coach Dave Gray Sports, Baking programs, and other programs as needed. There is flexibility to engage with new after school offerings (i.e. language programs, HUB). This person would be responsible for engaging with the website administrator for sign ups and advertising programs. This person is also responsible for contacting parents regarding programs including day of School Dismissal Manager working in conjunction with office staff.

Book Fair

This person is responsible for coordinating and hosting biannual book fairs (currently through Scholastic Books). This person will work with our Scholastic Book representative to schedule and facilitate book fairs in the Fall (October) and Spring (March). This includes scheduling dates with the office, coordinating and managing volunteers, running the book fair, and handling money related to. This position is busy in September/October and February/March ahead of and during the book fair.

Literacy Events

This person will plan and facilitate Book Swap and Book Bingo events annually for the student body. Book Swap requires availability during school hours once a year to collect, organize, and re-distribute books provided by students and PTA backstock. Book Bingo requires availability directly after school at least once per year to facilitate bingo for students.

Book Vending Machine

This person is responsible for scheduling monthly visits with students who have a birthday that month. This includes managing inventory for the vending machine as well as maintaining the listing of student birthdays. Inventory is funded by Scholastic dollars earned at book fairs. This role is also supported by the school librarian.

Family Fun Nights

This person is responsible for scheduling seasonal family events. In the past this has included the pumpkin patch in the fall, ice skating in the winter, and a Pgh Pirates game in the spring. This person would have the flexibility to explore new events or experiences as long as they are mindful of budgetary concerns for our families.

Kindergarten Orientation

This person is responsible for planning event(s) to welcome incoming kindergarteners and their families. This traditionally has included a kindergarten playdate, making welcome bags for kindergarten orientation, and speaking at the kindergarten parent meeting during the first week of school to share about the PTA.

Marquee Masters

This person is responsible for updating the marquee board along the Perry Highway side of school monthly. Dates are provided by the PTA board and the front office. The principal or assistant principal must approve all messaging. An example of messaging in August would include Back to School events and First Day of School. Marquee letters, numbers, and characters are stored at the front office so this task must be completed during school hours.

Membership

This person is responsible for promoting the PTA and encouraging parents, school staff, and community members to join. This includes running an annual membership drive in the fall as well as maintaining the membership listing with PA PTA monthly. This person will work with the treasurer monthly to remit dues to PA PTA/ National PTA.

New Student Orientation

This person is responsible for coordinating PTA representation at new student orientation. This includes purchasing a snack for all students and families in attendance (typically ice cream novelties or freeze pops). This person would be tasked with finding PTA families to help lead new students on tours throughout the building ensuring all grade levels are represented first through fifth. 

  • Time Commitment: Approximately 3 hours including attending orientation on the Thursday before school starts

Party Parent Coordinator

This person is responsible for coordinating parent volunteers for the Halloween and Winter parties that take place in each classroom.  This person would work with the office to ensure that all volunteers have their clearances approved and current with the district.  They would also coordinate parent sign in with the office the day of each party.

  • Time Commitment: Approximately 2 hours per party, including setting up parent sign ups, reviewing submissions, communicating with the office, and signing parents into the school the day of each event.

Spiritwear

This person is responsible for spearheading our spiritwear sales. This includes working with a vendor (Currently GPSA in Millvale) to pick designs, getting approval from the school district, and promoting the sale via social media/newsletters. Once the sale is completed and items are ready, this person would be responsible for picking up from GPSA and distributing to school classrooms. We typically have four sales per year- 2 in the fall and 2 in the spring.

West View Day

This person is responsible for planning and running day of logistics for the school wide celebration the third Friday of May. This includes reaching out to vendors, planning activities, managing logistics, and organizing volunteers. Activities typically include bounce houses, dunk tank (principal), silent disco, kona ice, and lawn games.

Yearbook

This person is responsible for preparing the school yearbook from design to print. This includes taking photos of school events, picking the theme and designing the book, as well as promoting yearbook sales. This person may also delegate design and photography duties to those on the yearbook committee as needed. This person will work closely with office staff as needed to gather information.

5th Grade Committee

This person, a 5th grade parent, is responsible for fundraising and planning events to support our 5th grade class. Because the 5th grade students participate in events that are only for their grade level they fundraise on their own to support those events. (PTA general funds are limited to things that benefit the entire student body) This person will work closely with the 5th grade teachers to order spiritwear, plan outings, and help with making the year memorable as we prepare to send the class to the middle school.

Website Administrator

This person is responsible for managing the backend of the PTA website, posting the annual updates to the Directory, as well as serving as administrator for West View PTA Google accounts. PTA parent leaders would work with you to create web pages, sign up forms, and blog posts. Currently the website utilizes software called Membership Toolkit, but this person could spearhead the search for a simpler system if desired.
